You will demonstrate an understanding that all successful organizations need for their employees to share pertinent information in a timely manner to the appropriate parties and constantly demonstrate that understanding.

Job Responsibilities:

  • • Preparing quarterly/annual statutory financial statements and schedules/exhibits in compliance with NAIC and other regulatory requirements and monthly internal financial results.

  • Utilizes general accounting and financial principles and techniques, and assists in obtaining, assembling, evaluating, interpreting, recording and analyzing financial data.

  • Thorough knowledge in preparation of vouchers, bank reconciliation, cash flow statement, budget preparation and monitoring of expenses.

  • Performs and/or assists in performance of financial analysis, as directed.

  • Prepares analytical schedules, analyzes variances and provides analytical support for internal requests.

  • Implementing, reporting and communicating the impact of business and accounting related initiatives on assigned processes and financial statements.

  • Working collaboratively within the team, across the department and individuals external to ELCO.

  • Preparation of premium taxes returns, coordinating with external accountants on income tax returns, overseeing annual filings and certificates of authority renewals.

  • Works directly with the VP/Treasurer and the CFO to provide timely and accurate financial statement data.

  • Work with the auditors and coordinate the information requests.

  •  Reviews various reports on a daily basis.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to complete projects and assignments with minimal supervision

  • Willingness to work extra hours during year-end/quarter-end deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, CPA preferred or CPA candidate

  • 3-5 years of accounting experience

  • Proven understanding of accounting principles such as cash and accrual accounting

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software systems

  • Advanced Excel skills: VLOOKUP, pivots, graphs, charts, data analysis, etc.

  • Finance background preferred

  • Demonstrated ability in preparing financial statements

  • Experience in insurance companies will be an added advantage
