ELCO Mutual strives to help its community in many different ways. We have a clothing drive every year for Midwest Veterans Closet, which works to positively impact our military heroes and families. Lake County Boys and Girls Club is another recent addition that provides a safe place for youth to go when after school. We also give back to our local Lions Club whose mission is to improve the quality of life for those who are visually impaired. We support our four-legged friends by collecting pet supplies for a local pet shelter every year. Lastly, we sponsor the Northern Illinois Food Bank 5k/10k every year which raises money to provide meals to those in need throughout the Northern Illinois region. Whether it's donating money or time, ELCO always finds a way to give back and continues to look for more ways to help our community.
Volunteerism is one way that our employees can come together to show support for charitable causes resulting in a sense of shared purpose. We are lucky enough to have a local charity, Bernie’s Book Bank, directly behind our home office. We periodically send volunteers to assist in their goal to supply children from low-income families with books of their own. During the holiday season, we partner with Catholic Charities for their annual holiday gift drive. We also sponsor and participate in the Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk and the Walk to End Alzheimer's. Our Vice President of Human Resources, Lori Lemme, says “Having our employees at ELCO come together more than just in a work environment is a great way to foster camaraderie among the staff.”
